Passing on a FreewayWhen the lead rider decides to change lanes, the lead rider will give the signal to change lanes while staying in the lane they are currently in. This signal should pass all the way back to the last rider. Once the lead rider see that it is safe to change lanes, he/she will then proceed to change to that lane. When changing lanes back to the original lane, the leader should wait until the whole group has cleared the slower traffic. Then the lead bike will change lanes first with each bike following in turn. Moving as an entire group at once could cause a problem in an emergency situation, so each rider should take care to be responsible to change lanes safely and in order.
Passing on a Two-Lane RoadIt is usually very difficult for a group to pass a slow moving car on a two lane road. Generally, we will not pass a car unless the leader is ABSOLUTELY certain the entire group can pass with plenty of room to spare in a safe manner. It is the Chapter's policy that it is better to arrive later than planned then to risk the safety of the entire group.
